For more than 18 years, The Vegetarian Resource Group has been polling to find the number of vegetarians. Recently, we wanted to determine the number of people who stay vegetarian. We also examined peoples’ original motivation for becoming vegetarian and if there’s a link between that reason and the length of time they maintain their diets.

5. I don’t eat meat, fish, seafood, or poultry at many of my meals, but less than half the time.
6. I don’t eat meat, fish, seafood, or poultry at more than half of my meals, but not all the time.
7. None of these.

Soyfoods have increased in popularity over the past decade. As coverage of issues related to soy and health grows, it is important to understand the research behind the relationship between soy and human health benefits.

Sales Data

The U.S. retail soyfoods industry totaled $4.5 billion in 2013, up from $1 billion just 17 years ago, according to sales data and forecast models conducted by Katahdin Ventures.

Soy is one of the most researched foods on Earth. From sustainable growing practices to its effects on lowering blood cholesterol and weight loss, hundreds of studies are conducted on this unique bean each year. We has scoured the data for you, and determined what is sound science based on study design, outcome, sample size and more.

In 1999 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a health claim for soy protein. The claim states that: “25 grams of soy protein a day, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease. A serving of (name of food) provides ____ grams of soy protein.”
